Realtor launches real estate ‘concierge’ business in Riverwoods, Ill. Posted on October 14th

Is now a good time to roll out a new kind of real estate business?

“Everyone says, ‘Are you out of your mind?’ ” said Wendy Cohen, who laughs but sidesteps commenting on her own sanity.

Nonetheless, during this most, um, interesting period in real estate history, she and associates have launched PowerHouse Real Estate, a business that aims to be a coach—think “concierge”—for consumers who want to build a home or take on a major remodeling job.

It’s a comparatively new business concept, seen in only a handful of markets around the country. The idea, she says, is to oversee big residential construction jobs from start to finish. Tasks she and her staff are willing to tackle range from finding an appropriate lot or teardown (they’re licensed real estate brokers) to screening architects, landscape designers, builders or the myriad other professionals involved in such jobs.
